We tend to underestimate the effect of “small” gestures. Sometimes people get discouraged
when they want to make a contribution to a positive change or want to be a positive
influence on the world, because they are just one person. It seems like one person on their
own isn’t going to make much of a difference. In fact the opposite is true.
When we give kindness and compassion or forgiveness to someone, this has an effect on
the other person, which in turn may have an influence on their choices and behavior and
may alter how they treat other people etc. We most often do not see the ultimate effect of a
“small” act of kindness like smiling at someone, or helping a stranger in the street, but the effect is there nonetheless.
Furthermore, it also has an effect on yourself. In order to give someone kindness for
example, you first have to find the frequency of “kindness” in yourself. So in essence, what
you give to another, you give to yourself.
When you give something like kindness in your own circle of influence, you start a ripple
effect. The effects of your actions become exponential. This is the power of your
choice, which you exercise at every moment. What is it that you want to bring more off into
this world?
